Hey everyone!
I get a lot of questions about dealing with anxiety, particularly when it comes to using essential oils. While I’ve tried essential oils for anxiety, I’m no expert. Because so many people are curious and I don’t have all the answers, I thought it would be great to bring in someone who does. Today, Cassie Dulworth is here to share her expertise on using essential oils for anxiety relief. Cassie is amazing! She’s super talented, a new mom to a beautiful baby girl, and incredibly knowledgeable about essential oils. I just had to have her share her insights on the blog.
Personally, I’m a big believer in the power of essential oils. They’ve worked wonders for me, my dogs, and pretty much everyone I know. I’ll hand it over to Cassie now. And if you’re looking to start your essential oil journey, I have a favorite diffuser to recommend!
Confession time: I’m totally hooked on essential oils. I’ve always had a bit of a hippie streak, so it’s no surprise. I started using them during my pregnancy to deal with those not-so-fun symptoms. They provided instant relief from nausea, muscle pain, and heartburn, and I was sold.
Over time, my love for these oils grew, and now I use them for just about everything. Even my husband, who initially called them “voodoo oils,” is a fan now. I love that they’re non-toxic and plant-based, so I don’t have to worry about exposure to harsh chemicals.
I enjoy sharing how essential oils can make everyday life a little better. One common issue I hear about from friends, family, and pretty much everyone, is anxiety, stress, or feeling overwhelmed. It’s like our culture encourages it! Thankfully, there are loads of essential oils that can help with anxiety. I switch them up daily based on my mood and preferences.
When combined with other stress-busters like meditation, exercise, self-care, or a glass of wine, essential oils are a fantastic addition to your anti-anxiety toolkit. To help you out, I’ve divided my recommendations into four categories without overwhelming you:
### Essential Oils for Anxiety
1. **”When You Can’t Sleep” Anxiety:**
– **Lavender:** This versatile oil is great for everything, including anxiety. It helps with sleep, calms the mind, and eases anxious thoughts.
– **Serenity Blend (Restful):** A soothing blend of lavender, cedarwood, vetiver, and more, it eases tension and calms the mind.
– **Cedarwood:** A calming and warm oil, perfect for soothing anxiety.
2. **”Feeling Overwhelmed” Anxiety:**
– **Balance Blend (Grounding):** My absolute favorite for grounding emotions. Ingredients like ho wood, spruce, frankincense, and blue tansy help promote tranquility.
– **Clary Sage:** Especially great for women, this oil calms nerves and acts as a mild sedative.
– **Vetiver:** A rich, grounding scent that’s perfect for overwhelmed feelings. Great for applying before bed or whenever you’re overloaded.
– **Peace Blend (Reassuring):** It includes relaxing oils like lavender and vetiver, making it perfect for calming anxiety.
3. **”When Your Mind is Racing” Anxiety:**
– **Magnolia Touch:** Contains a high amount of linalool, which is incredibly relaxing.
– **Copaiba:** This oil works like CBD in the brain but is more concentrated and effective, without unwanted side effects.
4. **”Feeling Down, Tired, or Sad” Anxiety:**
– **Cypress:** A fresh, invigorating oil that uplifts the mood, especially when mixed with citrus oils.
– **Citrus Bliss:** A heavenly blend of citrus oils with vanilla bean for an instant mood boost.
– **Lemon or Wild Orange:** Any citrus oil can help lift your spirits when anxiety makes you feel down.
My biggest tip is to be consistent. Essential oils won’t work if you just use them once in a while. Keep your diffuser running daily and carry rollerballs with you wherever you go. If a particular oil doesn’t seem effective, try a different one!
