Mercury Retrograde is making its infamous return, and if you’re like me, you often realize it too late—right after a tech disaster or another mishap. Whenever things go awry, I rush to check if Mercury’s in retrograde and find relief in having something other than myself to blame for a few weeks. This time around, though, I’m ready for it.
Mercury goes into retrograde on March 5th, so mark your calendars and keep reading to prepare yourself.
But what exactly is Mercury Retrograde? It’s not just astrological mumbo jumbo; it’s a real phenomenon. In simple terms, Mercury appears to stop and spin backward, creating an illusion that causes chaos in communication, travel, emotions, and technology.
This topsy-turvy period happens about 3-4 times a year, each lasting a few weeks, with some extra days before and after—known as #retroshade—making it feel even longer. This year, look out for it from March 5-28, July 7-31 (unfortunately right during my birthday), and October 31-November 20.
What can go wrong during Mercury Retrograde? Pretty much everything! Electronics often glitch, pointless arguments arise, traffic turns nightmarish, mails get lost, tempers flare, flights get canceled, cars break down, and you might even leave your passport at home. Even signing contracts becomes risky, as you might overlook crucial details. Some might also become more introverted or struggle with communication.
On the flip side, Mercury Retrograde can be seen as a chance to reflect and finish old projects. Since it symbolizes moving backward, it’s a good time to revisit things and reconnect with old friends.
To survive this period, keep your expectations in check. Let things happen as they will; resisting only worsens the blow. If staying home feels right, go ahead. For those traveling, ensure your car is checked, arrive early for flights, and stay updated on delays. Handle communication mishaps with patience—it’s like everyone around is dealing with a bad mood.
Back up your electronics, and be cautious with any big purchases. Avoid signing contracts unless absolutely necessary, and have others review them. Be open to reconnecting with people from your past, but tread carefully if it’s someone you might not want to see again. Watch your mail closely, as retrograde plays tricks on postal services. Finally, focus on completing ongoing projects rather than starting new ones.
