Did you catch Kylie Jenner’s office tour? If not, feel free to check it out and then come back for a DIY project inspired by it. I found so much decor inspiration from her stylish space and took plenty of screenshots for my home decor mood board. I loved the hot pink accents against the bright whites, the sleek modern furniture, the light pink matte dishes (we have a similar set from Urban that we adore), the makeup and dressing room areas, Kylie’s personal office, and especially her furry rolling desk chairs.
Let’s talk about those chairs because they really stood out in the video. In her “creative meeting room,” there was a massive conference table lined with about 12 of these gorgeous white fur chairs with matte black bases on each side. She mentioned she needs a rolling chair, and naturally, I wanted one too.
Specifically, I wanted a white shag fur rolling chair with a matte black base. I searched online and found a few white shag chairs, but the matte black base was elusive. They were probably custom-made and expensive, and the generic shiny silver just wasn’t right.
So, as I always say, if you can’t buy it, DIY it. This project was a no-brainer. All I needed were a couple of cans of spray paint to create the Kylie-inspired rolling desk chair of my dreams.
Even though this is a straightforward project, here are a few tips I wish I had known:
– The chair comes in two parts: the base and the furry seat. The base has a hydraulic function that raises the chair, but it only works when attached to the seat. Once attached, you can’t remove it the same way you set it up, so build the chair first, then use an Allen wrench to remove the entire base before spray painting it. Trust me, this will save you a lot of time.
– Since the base is metal, be careful to hold the spray can a foot away and apply more thin coats rather than fewer thick ones. I got too close in one spot, and it shows up much more on metal—my OCD was not happy.
– Wipe down the base to remove dust. I forgot to do this, and it showed in a few places.
