Transform Your Office with Feng Shui: A Guided Tour

Finally, I’ve made enough progress on part of my house that I can share it with you all. Honestly, getting this new place set up has been slow going. Right after we moved in, Zack was away for two weeks, and I didn’t want to do too much without his input. When he finally got back, we got busy and just sort of lost our momentum.

Our new home is bigger, which means we need more furniture, and I’ve been super indecisive about how I want everything to look. I’ve been bookmarking ideas and saving them for later, but nothing has really stood out to me, so I’ve continued to procrastinate.

Fortunately, I did manage to organize my desk, so that’s a win for me. It’s where I handle all my work, and having a tidy desk is essential for my creativity and productivity. I’m not a Feng Shui expert, but I try to incorporate it into my life as much as possible, especially when it comes to my office space and even my wallet. A quick tip: clean out your wallet weekly to let money flow in, and consider using a red, purple, or green wallet.

Today, I’m excited to give you a little tour of my desk area in the office (the other part is my closet—more on that in another post) and share some of my favorite Feng Shui tips for office spaces.

**3 Tips for Feng Shui Your Desk Space**

1. **Choosing a Desk:**
When picking a desk, consider its shape, color, and material. Most people, myself included, go for a rectangular desk. This shape provides stable energy and promotes growth and expansion. However, some prefer a free-flowing desk space for creativity and energy, although it’s not great if you get easily distracted. When it comes to materials, wood is ideal, as it naturally brings positive energy into the space. Unfortunately, my desk isn’t wood, which I find disappointing. Regarding colors, black and white are the top choices. A white desk fosters clarity and discipline, helping focus on tasks, although it can sometimes feel energy-draining. Black desks are excellent for getting in the zone and maintaining concentration.

2. **Where to Put Your Desk:**
Unfortunately, my desk placement isn’t according to Feng Shui guidelines because of the room layout, though that might change if we can rearrange the furniture. Ideally, your desk should be in a commanding position, facing the door, to put you in a position of power. This is particularly useful in an office setting, though it might not be necessary when working from home.

3. **What to Put on Your Desk:**
This is my favorite part of Feng Shui—organizing! A neat desk is a foundational principle. The cleaner the surface, the more productive you can be. Clutter can stifle creativity and productivity. In Feng Shui, a Bagua map is used to divide a space into sections. You don’t have to use all nine sections but focus on those that need attention.

– **Upper Left:** Represents wealth and money. I keep a plant here as it’s green and symbolizes wealth. Plus, plants bring good energy.
– **Upper Right:** Stands for love and marriage. I place a piece of rainbow quartz here, known for its high energy and connection to the heart.
– **Mid Left:** Focuses on health and family. It’s a perfect spot for a health-promoting crystal or a framed family photo.
– **Mid Right:** Encourages creativity. It’s where I usually have my content calendar, a great spot for planning and brainstorming new ideas.
