I have to be honest, I’m not really into going all out for the holidays. The other day, I swung by Homegoods to grab some pumpkin-scented candles, and honestly, that’s about the extent of my holiday preparation. Sure, the decorations were awesome—fun and spooky—but I just can’t bring myself to buy a bunch of stuff that will just end up shoved in the garage. You know how it goes: you misplace everything and end up buying it all over again next year.
The same goes for costumes. The last thing I need is a cheap costume cluttering up my closet “just in case” I decide to wear it again. (Spoiler alert: I won’t.) I’m all about living minimally and avoiding collecting things that just take up space. So, yeah, that’s pretty much why I don’t go all out.
And time? Who has spare time for that?
When Halloween rolls around, you’ll usually find me digging through my closet to get creative with what I already have. Or I’ll buy something new, but only if I think I’ll wear it again.
Today, I’m sharing some costume inspiration for those who are, like me, a bit lazy when it comes to Halloween. You probably already have some of these items in your closet, and if you don’t, all my picks are both affordable and cute. You won’t break the bank, and you can wear them again.
So, what about you? Are you the kind of person who goes all out with costumes like a pro, or are you more into piecing together something from your closet?
Halloween Costumes You Have in Your Closet:
Throwback Vibes | Penny Lane Costume
With the seventies making a comeback, this costume is super fun. If you do need to buy any pieces, I promise they’ll be trendy this fall and winter, so you’ll definitely get to wear them again!
Babe in a Bodysuit | Not So Basic Black Cat
I get it, a black cat costume is as basic as it gets, but sometimes sticking to the classics—like a devil, angel, cat, or ghost—is the way to go. They’re easy to interpret and always leave room for creativity. Plus, I’d totally wear this look on a regular night out (minus the cat ears).
Trench Coat Costume | Frisky Flasher… or Kim K.
This one’s versatile because you can either go as a cheeky flasher or channel Kim K. Personally, I’d lean towards Kim K. (just add a black wig), but not everyone is into the Kardashians, so the flasher option is also fun. And let’s be real, thigh-high black vinyl boots are on my wish list, plus this gives me a chance to pretend to be Kim for a bit.
Jessica Rabbit Costume | ft. a Hottie Red Dress
I’m really into red right now, so this is a serious option for me. “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” was a fave of my parents, so I’m all for any excuse to wear a red-hot dress. Did I mention these $30 strappy rhinestone heels? They look just like a pair of Gucci heels I recently spotted at Nordstrom.
