Initial Reflections on Bridal Gowns: My Wedding Dress Inspiration Board

Initial Reflections on Bridal Gowns: My Wedding Dress Inspiration Board

I’m not quite sure where to start with the whole wedding dress thing. I’m planning to share a post about what I’ve learned from dress shopping once I’ve been to a few more appointments. For now, I’ve only been to one, and it was, well, typical dress shopping. We did have a good time, but here’s a fun fact about me: trying on clothes isn’t my favorite thing.

I’m definitely not the kind of bride who will try on 15 dresses, with most being just for fun. I tried on five dresses at my first appointment, found one that I liked (not loved), and I was out of there in under an hour. The bridal assistant mentioned how I seemed to be one of the easier brides they’ve encountered, which I guess means I don’t stress too much over this wedding planning. That’s my vibe—keeping it simple.

To be honest, the whole dress shopping experience is somewhat intimidating for me. First, I don’t enjoy trying on dresses. Second, I don’t feel I’m at my ideal wedding weight, so trying on these beautiful gowns isn’t exactly uplifting right now. Third, I might not consider myself picky, but when it comes to bridal wear, I realize I am.

Here’s what I don’t want in a wedding dress:
– Too much lace
– Boho style
– Princess-like
– Excessive tulle (needs to fit in a carry-on)
– Traditional or overly feminine

Here’s what I’m looking for:
– Unique
– Edgy
– Timeless
– Flattering (snatched waist, please)
– Sleek silhouette
– Silky texture
– Cool, effortlessly stylish vibe
– Possibly no veil

Finding a dress that ticks these boxes seems quite challenging. There are definitely designers who fit the edgy category, but with so many dresses to choose from, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and stressed. Now I’m experiencing a serious case of wedding dress FOMO. I have two appointments lined up for next weekend in LA, which I’m excited about, but I can’t shake this feeling that I’m missing out on something better. Like there might be a boutique hidden somewhere with my perfect dress waiting.

To top it off, the one dress I did like at my first appointment (keeping pictures of it under wraps for now) turned out to be much more girly and traditional than I’d thought, which left me even more confused about what I want.

Fingers crossed we find the right dress in LA next weekend. I’m really hoping to discover that edgy flair I’m looking for and nail down this part of the wedding planning.

Now, onto my wedding dress mood board…
