Exploring My Vacation Beauty Essentials and Step-by-Step Makeup Guide

My everyday makeup is pretty low-key. I do it every day, but I don’t spend a lot of time on it. On vacation, though, it’s a whole different story! I take my makeup way more seriously then. Maybe it’s because I have less to do, or maybe the hotel bathroom lighting is just amazing, but I really enjoy the process. It reminds me of how much fun I used to have with makeup as a teenager.
Interestingly, I actually use *less* makeup on vacation, but I spend more time applying it. I don’t want to lug around tons of makeup—it’s heavy, can spill, and it’s a hassle. So I only bring my absolute favorites. Less truly is more when traveling.
Since I posted some vacation photos online, I’ve gotten messages asking about my makeup routine, which was really exciting! Here’s what I do:
**My Vacation Makeup Routine**
**Step 1: Prime Time**
At home, I often skip primer, but on vacation, I use two! During the day, I use Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen (SPF 40) for sun protection and a matte finish. At night, I use Smashbox Primerizer, which is a moisturizer and primer in one for a fresh, dewy look.
**Step 2: Conceal**
I use several concealers: It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye for dark circles (applied with a damp beauty blender), Tarte Shape Tape for blemishes and dark spots (also with a damp beauty blender), It Cosmetics CC Cream for a light, dewy foundation alternative (again, damp beauty blender), and Maybelline Fit Me Dewy + Smooth foundation (mixed with MAC Strobe Cream at night for extra glow).
**Step 3: Powder**
I use a light dusting of It Cosmetics Celebration powder (with their Heavenly Luxe powder brush) to set my makeup and give it an airbrushed finish.
**Step 4: Color**
Bronzer is a must! I use Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer—it’s not orange and smells amazing. I might add Kevin Aucoin’s Neo-Blush in Sunset for a pop of coral.
**Step 5: Highlight**
I love Artist Couture Coco Bling highlighter, often layering it over MAC Strobe Cream for extra glow.
**Step 6: Eyes & Lashes**
I use Milk Makeup Kush mascara (it’s great!), Rimmel ScandalEyes liner (my go-to for years!), and a touch of highlighter in the corners of my eyes.
**Step 7: Brows**
I carefully fill in my brows using Benefit Foolproof brow powder (with Sephora Brush 20) and set them with Milk Makeup Kush brow gel.
**Step 8: Lips**
I usually line my lips with Max Factor Pink Petal lipliner and top it with NYX Creme Brulee butter gloss.
**Step 9: Setting Spray**
Finally, I spritz on some rose water for a dewy finish and to help my makeup last.
