Eight Social Media Channels I Leverage for Content Promotion and Traffic Growth (Including My Posting Strategy!)

Eight Social Media Channels I Leverage for Content Promotion and Traffic Growth (Including My Posting Strategy!)

Last week’s Instagram crash got me thinking: what if it disappeared? We’d be in trouble if we only relied on one social media platform. That’s why it’s crucial to diversify.

I’ve always used multiple platforms, and it’s paid off. For example, I’ve been on WeHeartIt for six years. It’s like a mix of Tumblr and Pinterest – the cool vibe of Tumblr with the high-quality content of Pinterest. A few years ago, they contacted me – a “top influencer”! I was shocked to find I had 1.2 million followers! Using their postcard feature, I directed them to my Instagram, gaining thousands of new followers (now I have 1.9 million on WeHeartIt!).

My process is simple: after a new blog post, I either use the post’s images (ideal for Tumblr/WeHeartIt) or create a fun graphic (better for Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest). I share it across all my networks, adjusting the caption slightly for each platform. The whole process takes about ten minutes.

Here are the platforms I use:

**Facebook:** It’s a classic, and although not my favorite aesthetically, it’s huge. I share all my blog posts on my business page and automatically share my Instagram posts there too. I also have a Facebook group for private interaction with my audience. When sharing blog links, upload your own image instead of the preview; it looks better. Use hashtags and tag brands!

**Twitter:** I’ve been on Twitter forever. Recently, I’ve become more active, enjoying its wit and humor. I share concise, engaging content and retweet a lot. Use a URL shortener like Bitly to save character space.

**Pinterest:** I love Pinterest for inspiration. I usually share 1-3 images per blog post, creating graphics when possible, especially for beauty or lifestyle tips. Keep your boards organized and use sections to categorize content.

**Tumblr:** I have a smaller following here, but it complements my other platforms. It’s a great way to share my blog and Instagram posts. Tumblr is also ideal for microblogging if you want to start small.

**WeHeartIt:** This is my favorite; it’s a visual platform, perfect for sharing inspiring content. Use the WeHeartIt extension to easily heart images and always link back to your content.

**Instagram:** A major platform; while not your sole focus, it needs to be strong. I use static images and stories to promote blog posts, and the swipe-up feature is key. Create custom graphics for your stories – it significantly improves engagement. Always tag brands and use relevant hashtags.

**Bloglovin’:** This platform helps people follow their favorite blogs. It’s great for discoverability and syndication; once set up, it does the work for you.

**Mailchimp:** Building an email list is crucial. It’s your direct line to your audience, especially if other platforms fail. Design your newsletter well and offer incentives to sign up.
